How to Read Scientific Articles Easily

In universities, we often come across scientific articles. To get study references and work on assignments, students generally look for sources more often from scientific articles because usually their research is more updated.

Scientific articles are articles that meet scientific principles. It is a representation of the author's thought or object of study to the reader through written language by following the systematic and rules of scientific writing. In order to read and understand scientific articles easily, you must know the following tips:

1. Start reading from the opening section and not from the abstract

Abstract contains a brief summary of the entire article content. However, sometimes the content in the abstract does not explain the contents of the article. So to make it easier to read scientific articles is to first understand the research background listed in the opening chapter.

2. Look for the big question

Try to find out what problems from the research you want to solve in order to be more focused when reading scientific articles and to better understand why the research was carried out.

3. Make a brief summary of the background

The opening section contains some important things such as previous research, the importance of doing this research, and what research should be done next. Then try to summarize the information.

4. Create a workflow from the methods section

In the method, the researcher will describe the method he uses, because the content of the method is the steps taken by the researcher to answer the problems from his research.

5. Look at the conclusion

A good conclusion is one that can answer the essence of the problem. The conclusion section must be able to answer whether there is a relationship between one problem and another. Even if a connection is found, it must be clarified whether it is significant (significant) or not.

6. Look back at the abstract to confirm your understanding of the entire articles

If you have read the scientific article sections in order from the introduction, method, results and conclusions, continue to read the abstract section. This is done to check again whether the understanding you caught from the article is appropriate or not. If something doesn't fit, you can reread the part that is still being misunderstood.
